Camille Scherrer awarded Best European Design Diploma

.....
At the TALENT exhibition at Eindhoven's Designhuis until 30 November 2008 in the framework of the Dutch Design Week, Camille Scherrer (born 1984), a Media & Interaction Design student at ECAL and member of the EPFL+ECAL Lab team, won the first prize jointly with a student from the Eindhoven Design Academy.

Camille's work was also exhibited in Paris at Passage de Retz, as part of an exhibition entitled "Machines à rêve, Video Short List" organised by the Maison Européenne de la Photographie.

This diploma stems from the initial major cooperation between ECAL and EPFL within the EPFL+ECAL Lab. Both Schools are delighted that the project has met with international acclaim.

The Haunted Book

.....
Diploma project by an ECAL Media & Interaction Design student with the EPFL CVLab. An artwork that relies on recent Computer Vision and Augmented Reality techniques to animate the illustrations of a poetry book. Because we don't need markers, we can achieve seamless integration of real and virtual elements to create the desired atmosphere. The visualization is done on a computer screen to avoid cumbersome Head-Mounted Displays. The camera is hidden into a desk lamp for easing even more the spectator immersion.

The project was presented at the Maison européenne de la photographie de Paris, as well as at the 7th IEEE and ACM International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality - ISMAR 2008.
