Digital Design + Production

© Tonatiuh Ambrosetti 2008

The DD+P course and Project aims to present new concepts and processes of digital design and production, to provide first hand experience with digital tools, and then use digitally driven production machines to develop a final full scale project. This course is a multidisciplinary collaboration between ENAC and ECAL.

The course has three main activities:
- Lectures: presenting theory, concepts, and related work from design professions.
- Workshops: to present and develop skills in digital design and production
- Projects: Hands on experience building projects using digitally driven production equipment.

Each semester there will be a different theme of investigation. The theme focuses the lectures and is used to guide the project goals for the participants. The theme provides a common theme for all of the multidisciplinary participants in the course, and allows for interaction from the different approaches of design, architecture, engineering, and environmental science.

The DD+P course will investigate how digital tools and machines are changing the process of design, and enabling and facilitating the production of complex form. This course is being followed by 10 EPFL students and 5 ECAL students. The theme of DD+P SS08 is Aesthetics/Logic.
