How can technological performance turn into an experience for the user – a vector of meaning, history and emotion? Rising to this challenge, the EPFL+ECAL Lab is offering a new relationship between engineering and design with innovation as its goal. This relationship combines the dynamics, culture and working methods specific to each of these disciplines around concrete projects. These projects serve to explore new prospects for applications, expressions and uses based on emerging technologies. Through design, the EPFL+ECAL Lab makes the most of the research and skills existing in the 300 research labs of the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, one of the top European research universities in the fields of engineering and information technology. It also adresses some major challenges our society has to face, in relation with innovation.
EPFL+ECAL Lab focuses its work on Digital culture and technology, sustainability and materials.

The EPFL+ECAL Lab works in close cooperation with both industrial and institutional partners so as to transform the findings of its projects into economic and social realities. The Lab also sets up exhibitions to raise public awareness to cutting-edge innovations likely to impact on our everyday life.
